Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, is a historic town in Tamil Nadu, India. The temples of Mahabalipuram, portraying events described in the Mahabharata, were built largely during the reigns of King Narasimhavarman and his successor Rajasimhavarman and show the movement from rock-cut to structural temples. The town is famous for its intricately carved temples and rock-cut caves, such as the rock-cut shore temples. The temples in Mahabalipuram reflect the artistic brilliance of the Pallava dynasty that ruled the region during the 7th and 8th centuries. The architectural style of the temples in Mahabalipuram is Dravidian, which is a South Indian style of architecture.
